Level of Self-Care Routine and Job Satisfaction of Guidance Advocates

Abstract


This study probed the self-care routine level and job satisfaction of fifty guidance advocates in tertiary educational institutions in the province of Leyte, Philippines. The researcher utilized a valid and reliable survey instrument to measure the self-care routine level and job satisfaction level of guidance advocates. The instrument used to measure the self-care routine level have twelve item statements, while job satisfaction measure is composed of thirteen item statements, both are in five-point Likert scaling. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational design aimed to identify the self-care routine level, job satisfaction level and its relationship. The data gathered were treated, described, analyzed and interpreted using the mean, percentage, Pearson product – moment correlation coefficient as statistical tools. In general, guidance advocates conveyed to perform self-care occasionally. The marginally performed self-care routine is physical self-care while psychological, emotional, spiritual and workplace self-care are occasionally performed. Job satisfaction of guidance advocates yield favorable level of result. A significant relationship is established between self-care routine level and job satisfaction level. It is recommended that the guidance advocates’ self-care routine level should be increased to consequently raise their level of job satisfaction. Crafting an evidenced-based self-care intervention plan is also proposed along with a national standard guidance and counseling supervision. A further study should also be conducted to rule out other factors that may predispose the inadequacy of self-care routines of guidance advocates, with specificity to the lack of guidance advocates, the inadequate guidance advocate and student ratio and the multiple roles of a guidance advocate.
